Global Day of Parents is a United Nations (UN) observance that is celebrated on June 1 each year to honour parents and their commitment to children worldwide. Where would we be without parents. Well, one we wouldn’t be here at all, but parents and parental figures are our foundation.

They nurture us, protect us, mould us according to their own values and beliefs.As children we love them and hate them and as we grow most of us become parents as well. 

So it is a time for people all over the world to appreciate parents for the vital role they play in the development of families which are the corner stone of our communities. Today parents, teachers, community leaders and family organizations can get together to celebrate and promote effective parenting.

Styles of parenting come and go according to the research of the time. From biblical “don’t spare the rod” to current methods of what appears to be allowing children to do “just what they like”.

How did global Day of Parents come about? 

On 17th September 2012, the United Nationals declared every June 1 would be the Global Day of Parents. The aim is to recognise the vital role parents of, religion, culture and nationality have in providing a loving, positive and protected environment for their children to develop in because parents are and always will be the primary care-givers and teachers of our youth without whom we have no future.
