It is the goal of everyone to be happy and on this day the United Nations encourages countries and governments to give attention to the wellbeing of their citizens. So what are you going to do today to make someone happy?
The original idea
The idea was put forward by Buthan who instead of measuring GNP (gross national product - (the total value of goods produced and services provided by a country during one year, equal to the gross domestic product plus the net income from foreign investments), they focus on GNH (gross national happiness) a country whose citizens are considered to be some of the happiest people in the world and having been there more than once I can say they do seem very happy.
The GNH rejects the sole use of economic and material wealth as an indicator of development, and adopts a more holistic outlook, where the spiritual well-being of a countries citizens and communities is given as much importance as their material wealth.
