Remembrance Sunday honours the achievements and sacrifices made by everyone during past and present conflicts. wars. It always falls on the second Sunday in November which is the closest Sunday to when the armistice was signed at 11am on November 11th 1918 bringing an end to the first world war. 

The Royal British Legion which is a charity created to help ex service men and women and widows of service men, organise the "Poppy Apeal" and this year is no exception. In recent years white poppies have also been sold indicating a wish for peace. The day is also marked by events such as memorial services, church services and parades. A national commemoration takes place at Whitehall, a road in the City of Westminster in central London.

Also referred to as Poppy Day or Armistice Day, Remembrance Sunday is also observed in most Commonwealth countries, including Australia and Canada. Other countries such as the U.S. have similar observances like Veterans Day. 

The 10th November is also World Science Day for Peace and Development. Why they chose the day before Armistice day I can’t imagine.
