Late May Bank Holiday UK (Whitsun)

The spring bank holiday, also known as the late May bank holiday, is a time for people in the United Kingdom to have a day off work or school. It falls on the last Monday of May but it used to be on the Monday after Pentecost also known as Whit Monday.

Whit Monday, or Pentecost Monday, is a Christian holiday celebrated the day Whit Sunday also known as Pentecost. It commemorates the descent of the Holy Ghost upon the disciples of Jesus Christ, according to the New Testament of the Bible.

Further Information

According to church tradition, Pentecost is about seven weeks after Easter Sunday, or 50 days after Easter, including Easter Day. It is also the tenth day after Ascension Thursday, which is 40 days from Easter, counting Easter Sunday itself.
