We need to understand the chakra system because it has a direct connection to our physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Understanding its functions can help us respond to life with awareness rather than being unconsciously reactive. Psychical, mental, emotional and past life traumas are stored in chakras (which connect to the aura) and by clearing them we can help ourselves move forward in our lives.
It is important for all chakras to be energised, balanced and functioning efficiently for the all-round well being of the individual on all levels, physical, emotional, spiritual.
What are Chakras?
The word chakra itself is Sanskrit (ancient Hindi) and means “wheel”. When you see the chakras, which you can with special cameras, they are like spinning energy vortices, and are shaped like a funnel. The wider, spinning end interacts with our auric field, whilst the stem appears to be embedded in our spine. The vortices go in both directions through the front and back of the body with the centre of the funnel joining in the energy channel, which runs through the centre of our body
Chakras act as step-down transformers, converting subtle etheric energy – prana, chi, Reiki, universal cosmic energy, or source energy, call to be used by the hormonal, nervous and cellular systems of our physical body. We take in air and food to fuel the molecular building blocks of our body. The aura and chakras take in the subtle energy, which is also fundamental for life. As well as being linked to the physical functioning of our bodies each chakra holds a key to understanding our relationships, our strengths and weaknesses and our sense of who and what we are in the world.
We live in a spiralling galaxy and it often feels like we have been around the spiral before but each time we do we release more and more of the conscious and unconscious patterns and get closer and closer to our core selves. This allows us to live more authentically from our soul energy.
We are third dimensional beings and the colours shown are those recognised in the ancient Indian yogic tradition as well as in new age healing circles. As we progress on our spiritual journey by clearing the traumas and misconceptions of the past then our body’s vibrations will rise and as this happens then the colours in our chakras change. (I will cover this in a later article)
There are many minor chakras (189 in total) ranging from those in the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, behind the knees, elbows and others scattered throughout the body at strategic positions relevant to the energetic functioning of our physical and etheric bodies. These are all the points along the meridians used by other therapies aimed at clearing blockages in the body such as Shiatsu, Acupuncture etc. In the etheric body there are said to be 72,000 chakras. The spinning action of the chakras moves energy along the meridian lines around the body. It is important for all the chakras to be energised, balanced and functioning efficiently for the all-round well being of the individual on all levels, physical, emotional, spiritual.
However, it is the seven main chakras that are the most important. They each have:
- Different frequencies
- Different colours associated with them at different dimensions
- Relationships with different emotional and spiritual issues
- Connections to different, organs, glands and nerves
- Different ages at which they develop
- Different types of traumas they store
- Different governing elements (earth, air, fire and water etc)
- Different gems to help balance them
- Different Angels that work best with them
There are also individual in-depth articles about each of the seven major chakras.
In this article I briefly mention colour and other dimensions. There are many other chakras within the aura that connect to those dimensions and these will be the subject of further articles in the future.
